Operating Pledge 2018

Dear Friends,

2017 is our quasquicentennial year; Faith United Methodist Church is 125 years old!  We’ve been celebrating this milestone birthday throughout the year, with special events still to come.  Bishop Bruce Ough will preach on October 15, and District Superintendent Dan Johnson will preach on November 19.  During December, we will celebrate the 125th anniversary of this congregation’s first worship service

Our stewardship campaign for the coming year encourages us to consider the many ways we live out our faith together.  Our theme is “Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations”, from the study book by Robert Schnase.  The five practices, considered on five different Sundays, are:

On Pledge Sunday, October 29, we will conclude with the topic “Excellence and Fruitfulness.”  Jesus said, “My Father is glorified when you produce much fruit and in this way prove that you are my disciples.”  God changes lives through congregations, and Faith UMC is one congregation that has been changing and enriching lives for 125 years.  Thanks be to God!

Estimate of Giving cards are still available in the Commons, if you need one to indicate the financial gifts you anticipate giving in 2018. Bring your completed card to worship on October 29 as we celebrate with our Estimate of Giving offering.  (Cards can also be placed in the offering plate on any other Sunday, mailed or brought to the church office,or to sign up online, please use our online form)

I pray that together, we will engage in the “Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations” to the glory of God!

In Christ,

Pastor Diane M. Christianson

News at Faith

At an all-church meeting on February 11, the congregation of Faith UMC voted overwhelmingly to become an Altar for All church, which means that the church will welcome, honor and celebrate the wedding of any prepared couple who seek to commit their lives to one another in marriage.

During Lent, Faith UMC members gather with the congregations of Community UMC of Columbia Heights and Northeast UMC of northeast Minneapolis for joint Wednesday night services. A soup supper is served at 5:30 p.m., followed by worship at 6:15 p.m. Also, Faith UMC will have special services during Holy Week and Easter, April 1.

Several options are available for a study of the book Surprise the World, by Michael Frost. They include Tuesday mornings, Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

Faith UMC prepares and serves a community meal at Northeast UMC on the third Saturday of the month. The next dates are February 17 and March 17.
