Jerry Hanson, for whom the scholarship has been named, grew up on a farm near Litchfield, MN. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army. Jerry attended Dunwoody Technology College pursuing a degree in Architectural Drafting. He worked for Steenburg Construction in St. Paul for 36 years. He was the foreman when they were awarded the contract to rebuild Faith United Methodist Church after the building was destroyed by a tornado in 1984. In 1986, with three others he purchased Graus Construction Company.

Jerry always had a desire to contribute and make a difference. He was the Treasurer of Faith United Methodist Church for over 25 years. He gave his time and love of sports to the St. Anthony Sports Boosters for 35 years as a coach, equipment manager, and wherever his help was needed.

In his line of work, he knew continuing education was necessary.

The Hanson family decided to set up this scholarship through the Faith United Methodist Trust when Jerry died on February 23, 1995.
