Kids Connect

Working on a Kids Connect project

Children's programs

Sundays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children will attend the first part of the worship service each Sunday, and we encourage them to sit with their class in the front pews (on the left-hand side as you enter the sanctuary). Children will help lead the service, and we will plan the first part of our worship services with them in mind.  After the scripture reading, the children and their teachers will go downstairs for hands-on activities related to the scripture readings.

We have two classes, one for children 4 years old through 4th grade and one for children in grades 5to 8). Adults and children will be focused on the same readings each week – and we hope this will facilitate family conversations.

This year we will continue using Seasons of the Spirit curriculum and worship materials. Seasons of the Spirit supports faith communities and families in their life together by:

  • • exploring meaning and mystery in the Bible.
  • • being grounded in thoughtful theology.
  • • empowering children, youth, and adults to be transformed in Christ.
  • • nurturing the imaginative spirit.
  • • integrating worship, learning, and serving ministries.

Seasons' vision is for an authentic Christianity lived in our culturally diverse and religiously pluralistic world; to be signs of God’s liberating, compassionate, and inclusive love, and to grow in our relationship with God. Seasons encourages Christian growth through worshipping, learning and serving together.

News at Faith

At an all-church meeting on February 11, the congregation of Faith UMC voted overwhelmingly to become an Altar for All church, which means that the church will welcome, honor and celebrate the wedding of any prepared couple who seek to commit their lives to one another in marriage.

During Lent, Faith UMC members gather with the congregations of Community UMC of Columbia Heights and Northeast UMC of northeast Minneapolis for joint Wednesday night services. A soup supper is served at 5:30 p.m., followed by worship at 6:15 p.m. Also, Faith UMC will have special services during Holy Week and Easter, April 1.

Several options are available for a study of the book Surprise the World, by Michael Frost. They include Tuesday mornings, Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

Faith UMC prepares and serves a community meal at Northeast UMC on the third Saturday of the month. The next dates are February 17 and March 17.
