Our 125th Anniversary

2017 is our quasquicentennial year. We are celebrating 125 years as a congregation! Here are some special events through the end of 2017.

  • Bishop Bruce Ough will preach on October 15.
  • District Superintendent Rev. Dan Johnson will preach on November 19.
  • Our concluding anniversary celebration will be in December.

In addition, two new resources will be available early this fall: The Faith UMC history booklet and supplement, and an enhanced DVD of the April 30 Pastors Sunday, when former pastors were with us to celebrate our 125th anniversary as a congregation.

Our congregation began as Second Swedish Methodist Episcopal Church of Minneapolis in 1892. In 1913 the church was renamed Ebenezer. In 1955, the congregation moved to St. Anthony Village. The name was changed to Faith in 1956, and the first service was held in our new building in 1957. We have a lot to celebrate!

News at Faith

Faith UMC will have a Thanksgiving Eve meal at Northeast UMC at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov ember 22, followed by a worship service at Faith UMC at 7 p.m.

The Korean United Methodist Church, formerly of New Brighton, will be meeting at the Faith UMC building for the next several months. It has sold its former building and will move its worship services and other activities to Faith UMC while it is looking for a new building to make its home.

Faith UMC will engage in discussions this fall and winter on whether the church should become an “Altar for All” congregation and sanction same-sex marriages. A vote is planned for early 2018.

Rev. Diane Christianson will lead another group to the Holy Land in January 2018. If you didn't make this year's trip, maybe this next trip is the time for you to go!
